AMERICAN ZOFINGEN DAY OF RACE INFORMATION
CHECK IN
Update on Start Times:
-long course starts at 7:30
-middle distance starts at 8:00
-short distance starts at 8:30
-good weather, with 72 degrees for a high but a chilly start. Make sure to dress appropriately and have dry clothes for after you finish. We will have boxes at all aid stations if it gets warm for people to shed their extra clothes.
- long course racers have the option to bring their own bottle labeled with their race number as a "special needs" bottle of nutrition. This will be placed at the 44/55 & granite aid station for pick up. Call out your number in advance to get your bottle handed to you.
Arrival times prior to race start:
-for the safety and coordination of all three distances we ask that the middle and short course racers arrive and park no later than 8:00 to allow bikers to exit the park safely. Anyone arriving after 8:00 will be directed to the front parking area and asked to walk their bike and gear to transition.
PACKET PICKUP
Packet pickup is Saturday May 15th, 10-6 pm, at Catskill Mountain Multisport, 246 Main Street, New Paltz, NY (845.633.8720), or 6-8 am RACE DAY morning at the pavilion. You must have a government issued photo ID and your USAT card. If you do not have a USAT card with you, there is a $10 surcharge. If you do not have government issued photo ID, you cannot race.
VOLUNTEERS
VOLUNTEERS are always appreciated. Call Tom Ganz at 917.583.4966. This is a very fun race to take part in. These racers are the toughest of the tough. And, you get delicious locally brewed FREE BEER and great food!
Friends and family are encouraged to join the aid station on the bike course, just accross from the preserve entrance.
DIRECTIONS
NYS Thruway exit 18, New Paltz. To get to the venue, at exit 18, after the toll plaza at the traffic light "T" intersection, take a left onto 299. Proceed through town downhill to bridge over Wallkill River. Take the first right after bridge, Route 7 / Springtown Road (there will be signs for Mohonk). Proceed about a 1/2 mile to a fork and fork left, Route 6 / Mountain Rest Rd. Stay on this road passing through the 4 way intersection at Butterville Rd. and proceed to the top of the mountain, pass under the railroad tressle then descend 1 mile to a sweeping left hand bend. The entrance to Mohonk Preserve, Spring Farm (27 Upper Knolls Rd) is on the right. Drive all the way in 3/4 mile and you'll be at parking, start/finish, and transition. Do not park in the first lot on your left just after the gatehouse, which is for paying patrons of the preserve. Proceed onwards up the small hill as we have our own parking, immediately adjacent to transition. Parking for the event is limited, so arrive early as we start LC at 7:30 am sharp. MC starts at 8:00 and SC starts at 8:30. SC athletes arriving after 8:00 am should be extra careful driving into the Preserve, as LC athletes will be cycling out.
AID STATIONS
On the run, there will be aid at 1.5M, 3.5M and at transition. The 2nd run is 3 loops of the first run. There is bicycle aid 1. opposite the entrance to spring farm (this serves as the "special needs" zone), 2. Jenkins and Luekens Farm (the ITT finish line - the digital clock displayed there has no bearing on the duathlon), 3. Just past Clove Rd. on 44/55. Aid consists of water, HEED and Hammer Gel. For the bike, we'll have bike bottles which fit standard frame cages. Please do not litter anywhere on the course. Please only drop bottles and packaging in designated areas. Last year, when I swept the course the next day, I was amazed how clean the racers kept it. As a result, we were invited back. Have a great day.
OTHER NOTES:
If you try and race without registering, i.e. bandit the race, you will be arrested for trespassing. When the police ask why you're all bruised and bleeding, 5 witnesses will swear you tripped and fell.
Short and medium course athletes should keep the rest rooms free for LC racers until after the LC starts. Non-racers shoulds wait until the racers are on the course.
No one should litter anywhere.
